MANILA — Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered a strategic overhaul of the deployment practices within the Police Security and Protection Group (PSPG) to better address high-threat security challenges across the nation.
According to Philippines News Agency, the new directive issued on Sunday aims to optimize the deployment of security personnel by focusing on individuals facing significant threats, amidst a current police-to-population ratio of 1:2,000, far from the ideal 1:500. This shift is intended to enhance protective services for those most in need and improve general public safety efforts by reallocating resources more effectively.
Gen. Marbil highlighted the necessity of this strategy in a recent media release, stating that the prioritization of high-security threats would allow for a reduction in the deployment of security details to individuals facing lower risks. This approach is expected to bolster field operations and address broader policing needs more efficiently.
Further illustrating the implementation of this policy, Marbil reassured that the security for Vice President Sara Duterte remains robust, despite the recent redistribution of 75 PSPG officers to the National Capital Region Police Office, leaving 31 officers directly assigned to her. This adjustment reflects the ongoing commitment to adapt to evolving security requirements while maintaining high standards of protection for key government figures.
