PNP Deploys 33,000 Officers for National School Opening Amid Weather Challenges

MANILA — Approximately 30,000 Philippine National Police (PNP) officers will be stationed across the country to secure the reopening of public elementary and high schools scheduled for Monday, despite the recent disruptions caused by Super Typhoon Carina and ongoing monsoon rains.

According to Philippines News Agency, the deployment is part of an extensive security plan designed to ensure the safety of students as they return to school. This announcement comes as various local government units have delayed school openings due to the adverse weather conditions affecting large parts of the country.

The Department of Education (DepEd) has confirmed that the start of classes will be postponed in 738 schools, including significant numbers in Central Luzon, the National Capital Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Cotabato, due to the impact of the typhoon and the monsoon.

Fajardo detailed that the officers are tasked with conducting patrols around school premises and setting up Police Assistance Desks (PADs) to provide immediate support and ensure a secure environment for both students and staff. Additionally, the police are instructed to maintain close coordination with school officials to discuss and implement necessary security measures effectively.
