Regional Conference in Bangkok Focuses on Health Security in Asia-Pacific Region.
Bangkok: The health security was the main focus of the Regional Conference for Parliaments of the Asia-Pacific Region on Global Health Security. The conference which was held recently in Bangkok, Thailand, was jointly organised by the Parliament of Thailand and Inter-Parliament Union in collaboration with the World Health Organisation, WHO. More than 90 participants, comprising members of parliament, health experts, and representatives of international organisations, gathered to discuss and formulate steps towards a safer and more sustainable health future.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Brunei Darussalam was represented by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusuf; Yang Berhormat Dayang Hajah Rosmawatty binti Haji Abdul Mumin; and Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohamad Danial, alias Tekpin bin Ya’akub, Members of the Legislative Council.
His Excellency Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, President of National Assem
bly and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in his keynote speech emphasised the importance of cross-border solidarity and called on parliamentarians to strengthen international cooperation in dealing with increasingly complex health threats. His Excellency also emphasised that only with collective action, global health security can be achieved.
Critical issues, Universal Health Protection, the impact of climate change on health, and the role of technological innovation in strengthening the ability to respond to health crises, among those discussed throughout the conference. The Legislative Council’s participation reflects a commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and contributing to global efforts to build a more robust and inclusive health system.
