Rain and Thunderstorms Predicted Across the Philippines Due to LPA and Southwest Monsoon

MANILA — The combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, locally known as ‘habagat,’ are expected to cause scattered rain and thunderstorms across various regions of the Philippines on Sunday, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

According to Philippines News Agency, the LPA, situated approximately 440 kilometers east of Catarman town in Northern Samar, poses a low likelihood of escalating into a tropical cyclone in the coming days. Despite this, it is projected to bring cloudy conditions with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions, as well as Quezon province.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon is influencing the western parts of Luzon, delivering similar weather patterns over the Ilocos Region and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan. Additionally, Metro Manila and the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon effects.

The weather bureau has issued warnings for potential flash floods or landslides triggered by severe rainfalls. The rest of the country can expect localized thunderstorms that may cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. Weather conditions will also include light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas across the archipelago.
