Brunei Speaker Seeks Stronger Ties with Indonesia and Singapore During Jakarta Visit
Jakarta: The close relations that have long been established between Brunei Darussalam, the Republic of Indonesia, and the Republic of Singapore are hoped to be further strengthened through collaboration in various fields. This was highlighted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, Speaker of the Legislative Council, during separate courtesy calls to the Speaker of Parliament from the two friendly nations, along with a meeting and visit to the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). It was part of the Speaker of the Legislative Council’s visit to Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, to attend a Joint Annual Session between the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia and the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Speaker of the Legislative Council made a courtesy call to Yang Berhormat Doctor HC Puan Maharani, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, and Yang Berhormat Seah Kian Peng, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Singapore. These meetings are seen as steps to foster stronger bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in multiple areas.
Joining the Speaker were Datin Paduka Doctor Dayang Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah, Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers’ Council, and Clerk to the Legislative Council, as well as His Excellency Retired Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Abdul Razak bin Haji Abdul Kadir, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Indonesia.
The Speaker also had the opportunity to attend a meeting and make a visit to the AIPA Secretariat, where he was welcomed by Her Excellency Dayang Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman. These engagements highlight Brunei’s commitment to strengthening regional ties and fostering collaboration among ASEAN nations.
