Private Sector Boosts Momentum for Philippine National Housing Program

MANILA — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s ambitious national housing initiative, the Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, is gaining significant momentum due to increased participation from private contractors and developers.

According to Philippines News Agency, Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar, the infusion of private sector support is propelling the rapid development and launch of housing projects across the nation. Currently, approximately 40 projects, primarily high-rise condominiums, are in various stages of development throughout the Philippines.

Acuzar expressed confidence in the continuous growth and execution of these projects due to the growing number of private partners. He highlighted the importance of private investment in addressing the country’s housing backlog without solely relying on the national budget. “This private participation is key to addressing our housing backlog,” Acuzar stated in a news release.

The surge in private interest is partly due to the Pag-IBIG Fund’s ongoing release of developmental loans. As of May 24, the fund has disbursed PHP761 million to private contractors for 4PH projects in areas including Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Ilocos Norte, and Bacolod City. The Pag-IBIG Fund, under the leadership of CEO Marilene Acosta, has allocated PHP250 billion to support the “Pambansang Pabahay” initiative.

One notable new participant is Megawide Construction Corp., through its real estate arm PH1 World Developers, which was recently selected by the Imus City local government to partner on a 4PH project in Barangay Malagasang 1-G. Acuzar praised this development, stating it confirms the government’s strategy is on the right track and that the private sector’s increasing involvement underscores broad support for the President’s vision to aid the poorest sectors of society.

DHSUD remains committed to expanding the reach and impact of the 4PH Program, aiming to fulfill the aspirations of many Filipinos for decent and affordable housing.
