President Marcos Urges Public to Utilize Cancer Care Services and Programs

Taguig City, Philippines – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. encouraged Filipinos to utilize available services and programs for cancer care, prevention, and treatment. This appeal was made in light of the inauguration of the country’s first dedicated cancer hospital, the Healthway Cancer Care Hospital (HCCH), at Arca South Estate in Taguig City.

According to Philippines News Agency, the HCCH's inauguration marks a significant advancement in providing quality cancer care for many Filipinos and exemplifies the effective collaboration between the government and the private sector. The initiative aligns with the Philippine Health Facility Development Plan and the Integrated Cancer Program, aiming to achieve universal healthcare.

The President highlighted the importance of the HCCH in revolutionizing the cancer care service industry in the Philippines through modern equipment and expert medical professionals. He stressed the critical role of early detection in combating cancer and encouraged the public to take regular health checkups, now facilitated by improved facilities like community health centers.

The HCCH offers a comprehensive range of cancer services, including radiation oncology, surgery, chemotherapy, and palliative care. In addition to the HCCH, the President noted that there are 25 specialty centers and select Department of Health-run hospitals offering cancer care across the country.

President Marcos also mentioned the availability of the PhilHealth Konsulta Primary Care Team, which provides free diagnostic exams and lab tests. Furthermore, the establishment of the Cancer Assistance Fund aims to alleviate the financial burden of cancer treatments, covering costs not included in PhilHealth coverage.

With cancer ranking as the third leading cause of death nationwide, Marcos called for continued support and investment from both public and private stakeholders in the healthcare sector. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating a more accessible, efficient, and responsive healthcare system.

The President's message concluded with a call for collective effort in overcoming public health challenges and delivering quality medical services throughout the Philippines, envisioning a stronger and healthier future for the nation.
