Post: President Marcos Jr. Highlights Economic Aspects of Security Cooperation with US

Honolulu, Hawaii – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has emphasized the multi-dimensional nature of the Philippines' security cooperation with the United States, encompassing military, political, and economic aspects. The President discussed this during his recent visit to the United States Indo-Pacific Command (Indopacom) in Honolulu, Hawaii, following the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders' Meeting in San Francisco, California.

According to Philippines News Agency, in an interview, President Marcos highlighted the ongoing assessments and discussions on enhancing capabilities and coordination with the US, extending beyond military concerns to include political leadership and economic issues. He pointed out that security and economic strength are interlinked, noting that economic resilience is crucial for a country's ability to defend itself.

The discussions between the two countries also involve commitments on the economy, investments, and public-private partnerships (PPP). President Marcos specifically mentioned the focus on technology during his attendance at the APEC meeting, dominated by dialogues with tech companies. He expressed optimism about significant projects and programs in the Philippines related to digitalization and cybersecurity.

During his visit to the Indopacom Headquarters, President Marcos received a restricted briefing on the Indo-Pacific region's state and security objectives from Admiral John Aquilino, Indopacom commander. The briefing covered the US Indo-Pacific Strategy, the role of Indopacom, and the capabilities the US can provide to support common security objectives of both nations.

President Marcos, who is on a working visit to Honolulu, underlined the progress made on this trip in strengthening and safeguarding various sectors of the Philippine economy and country.
