Post: PNP Heightens Security Measures for Upcoming Negros Oriental Special Election

NEGROS ORIENTAL – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently developing a robust security plan for the anticipated special election in the third district of Negros Oriental, scheduled for December 9.

According to Philippines News Agency, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office-7, the special election will be under the watchful eye of the PNP, which aims to ensure safety and order during the event. The district will remain under the control of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) beyond the November 29 conclusion of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) period. This extension is due to the forthcoming special poll necessitated by the vacancy following the expulsion of former representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. The Comelec is set to make a definitive decision on the control period next week.

Pelare, in a recent interview, assured the public that the election would be secure, referencing the successful security operations from the BSKE 2023 in Negros, which did not witness any election-related incidents. The existing security strategy from BSKE will be adapted with minor adjustments to fit the upcoming special election requirements.
