PHP10 Million Tourist Rest Area to Boost Albay’s Tourism Experience

TABACO CITY, ALBAY – A PHP10 million tourist rest area is set to be constructed at Hiraya Manawari Nature Park in Barangay San Vicente, enhancing facilities for visitors and boosting the overall tourist experience in Albay. The groundbreaking ceremony, which marked the start of construction, was attended by Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia-Frasco along with local tourism stakeholders and government officials.

According to Philippines News Agency, this initiative is a direct response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to improve tourist facilities nationwide. “Addressing the primary concern of tourists regarding the lack of public restrooms, we initiated this project to ensure their convenience and safety,” she stated during her speech at the ceremony. Garcia-Frasco emphasized the importance of showing appreciation for tourists as part of enhancing their experience in the Philippines.

The new facility is expected to contribute significantly to the vibrant tourism programs of Tabaco City, potentially increasing tourist arrivals. Garcia-Frasco highlighted the sustainable features of the planned tourist rest area (TRA), noting that it aligns with the National Tourism Development Plan’s vision, which aims to ensure the sustainability of tourism destinations for future generations. “The TRAs for 2024 will be equipped with solar power as a measure of sustainability,” she added.

The TRA will feature an information desk, a pasalubong (souvenir) center, lounge areas, restrooms and shower areas, a lactating room, and a charging station. Garcia-Frasco revealed that there are currently 10 TRAs operating across the country, with plans to increase this number in 2025 to further enhance the quality of tourism services as per the President’s directives.

Tabaco City Mayor Cielo Krisel Lagman expressed gratitude towards the DOT for this significant investment in local tourism infrastructure. The TRA, which is to be built on a lot owned by the local government unit, is expected to be completed within five months, further cementing Albay’s reputation as a welcoming destination for both domestic and international tourists.
