Philippines to Enhance Anti-Corruption Efforts with IPEF Technical Assistance

MANILA – The Philippines aims to bolster its anti-corruption campaign by seeking technical support from the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), following the recent signing of the Fair Economy Agreement in Singapore.

According to Philippines News Agency, during the IPEF ministerial meeting on June 6, the country will utilize the framework to improve measures against corruption, specifically targeting bribery. Pascual emphasized the significance of this collaboration in enhancing transparency and predictability within the business environment throughout the Indo-Pacific region. The IPEF Agreements are designed to empower partner countries, improve trade relations, and support sustainable investments through various initiatives, including technical assistance, capacity building, and sharing of best practices.

Pascual also noted the establishment of a clean economy pact under the IPEF, which aims to address the specific needs of the partner countries in transitioning to cleaner economies. This agreement will facilitate an exchange of ideas and practices necessary for effective strategies towards this transition.

The Clean Economy Agreement and the Fair Economy Agreement are two of the four main policy areas under the IPEF, which also include the Trade Pillar and the Supply Chains Pillar. The IPEF, led by the United States, involves multiple nations including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, focusing on resilience, sustainability, and economic growth.
