Philippines to Construct New Stadium at Clark Aviation Complex for Major International Events
CLARK, PAMPANGA – The Philippines announced plans on Friday to build a new stadium designed to host large-scale concerts and events, including performances by global music icons like Taylor Swift, within the Clark aviation complex.
According to Philippines News Agency, Clark International Airport and Corp. (CIAC) President and CEO Arrey Perez, who spoke at the ‘Build Better More’ Infrastructure Forum in New Clark City, the proposed entertainment and events center will be strategically located within walking distance from the Clark International Airport. The center is planned as a 40-hectare complex with an initial estimated cost of PHP32 billion and is expected to be completed by 2028.
Perez outlined the project timeline, noting that after six to nine months for processing proposals and contract signings expected next year, construction is slated to begin in 2025 with a two to three-year completion window. “It will take time, but we are committed to creating a premier venue for international events,” he said.
The stadium is expected to have a seating capacity ranging from 25,000 to 35,000, which Perez indicated is more suitable than a larger 50,000-seat arena. This capacity aims to provide an optimal experience for both performers and attendees, positioning the venue as a competitive location for hosting major international tours.
At least three proponents are interested in investing in the project, including entities from Singapore, the United States, and a local company, under a Public-Private Partnership setup. Perez added that the project was first conceptualized in November of the previous year.
Despite Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour skipping Manila last year, CIAC officials are hopeful that the new stadium could potentially host the artist by its inauguration in 2028. “We will court her,” Perez remarked, indicating efforts to attract major international acts to the venue once completed.
