Post: Philippines Advances 125 PPP Projects Valued at PHP3 Trillion

MANILA, Philippines — The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center of the Philippines is currently advancing a suite of 125 projects, valued at a cumulative PHP3 trillion, as part of the country's infrastructure development push, a top official disclosed over the weekend.

According to Philippines News Agency, deputy executive director of the PPP Center, these projects include a variety of infrastructure initiatives across different stages of development. The PHP23.40 billion Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) extension project is the furthest along, poised to extend the existing expressway with a 59.4-kilometer four-lane toll road from Rosario to San Juan, La Union. "These projects are in various stages, including ongoing procurement, approval, and early project stages supported by the Project Development and Monitoring Facility or other consultants," Manalo explained during a business journalism seminar organized by the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines.

Further highlighting significant projects under progress, Manalo noted the PHP12.75 billion upgrade and expansion of Laguindingan Airport in Northern Mindanao, the PHP4.53 billion New Bohol International Airport, the PHP9.49 billion University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) Cancer Center, and the PHP400 million Renal Center Facility at Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

San Miguel Holdings Corporation has been identified as the original proponent for the TPLEX extension project. Manalo elaborated on the process stages of some key projects, stating, "The Laguindingan Airport project is currently undergoing the challenge process. For the Bohol Airport, the negotiation period has concluded, and we are awaiting final approval of the negotiated terms to proceed with the comparative challenge."

Other projects in the pipeline include the Bislig Bulk Water Supply and Bislig City Septage Project in Surigao del Sur, the Negros Occidental Bulk Water Supply Project, Metro Manila Subway Project Operations and Maintenance, North-South Commuter Railway Project, San Ramon Newport Project in the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone, Cagayan Valley Medical Center-Hemodialysis Center, and the UP-PGH Diliman Project.

Most of these projects are anticipated to be awarded within the year, marking a significant step forward in the nation's infrastructure development strategy.
