Philippine Hurdler John Cabang-Tolentino Withdraws from Olympic Repechage Due to Injury

PARIS — The Philippines’ last medal hope at the Paris Olympics, hurdler John Cabang-Tolentino, withdrew from the repechage round of the men’s 110-meter hurdles at the Stade De France on Tuesday, citing an injury.

According to Philippines News Agency, the athlete expressed his regret and announced his withdrawal, stating, “I am so sorry. I’m not gonna be able to run due to an injury.” He was forced to pull out just as he was preparing to compete in Heat 2 of the wildcard phase, following a sixth-place finish in his preliminary heat on Sunday.

This unexpected turn of events followed closely on the heels of EJ Obiena’s fourth-place finish in the men’s pole vault finals, adding to the team’s challenging Olympic campaign. Tolentino’s withdrawal marks the end of the Philippine athletics team’s quest for a medal at this year’s Games.
