Philippine Competition Commission to Establish New Office at UP Diliman
QUEZON CITY – The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) is set to relocate its office to the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman campus following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the university.
According to Philippines News Agency, the agreement was formalized with UP President Angelo Jimenez on July 30, 2024, at UP Diliman. The MOU facilitates the leasing of a 1,620-square-meter piece of land on the campus for a period of 25 years, with the potential for extension. This strategic move aligns PCC with other prestigious institutions on the campus, enhancing its commitment to academic excellence and public service.
The PCC also announced plans, supported by the Asian Development Bank, to establish an academic center of excellence in competition law and policy at the UP College of Law. Aguinaldo expressed enthusiasm about inaugurating the center on the historic campus, noting that it will not only serve as PCC’s new headquarters but also as a hub for research, educational events, and other initiatives aimed at fostering a competitive culture in the Philippines.
Currently located at Vertis North Corporate Center 1 in Quezon City, the PCC’s relocation to UP Diliman marks a significant development in its mission to enforce the Philippine Competition Act (PCA), which addresses issues such as anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominance, and anti-competitive mergers and acquisitions to ensure fair competition and consumer benefits.
