Persistent Wet Weather Forecasted Due to LPA and ‘Habagat’
SURIGAO CITY – Continuous rainfall is expected across several regions of the Philippines due to the combined effects of a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, known locally as ‘habagat.’
According to Philippine News Agency, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the LPA located 200 kilometers northeast of Surigao City, along with ‘habagat,’ is set to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Region, Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon on Wednesday. The rest of Mimaropa, the Visayas, and Mindanao will also experience similar conditions due to ‘habagat.’
PAGASA has issued warnings for moderate to heavy rains, which may trigger flash floods or landslides in the affected areas. Isolated rain showers are expected over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, mainly due to ‘habagat’ and localized thunderstorms. Severe thunderstorms in these regions could also lead to flash floods or landslides.
PAGASA forecaster Obet Badrina indicated that the LPA would continue to affect the weather over the next few days, particularly targeting the Visayas, Southern Luzon, and the Bicol Region. ‘Habagat’ is expected to persistently impact the western sections of the country.
Additionally, moderate to strong winds and rough seas are predicted over the western section of Luzon, posing risks to sea travel. In contrast, other areas of the country will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas.
