Post: PCG Successfully Rescues Stranded Australian Couple in Palawan Waters

PALAWAN - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) successfully carried out a rescue operation for an elderly Australian couple who found themselves stranded in the waters of Palawan. Gretch Mary Acuario, PCG District Palawan spokesperson, reported on Saturday that the couple's yacht became incapacitated approximately one nautical mile from the port of Citinickel mining company in Narra, southern Palawan, on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the couple, identified as Kelvin Maurice Hofman, 74, and his wife, Deana Hofman, 67, were rescued by PCG personnel stationed in the municipality. They had embarked on a journey from Kudat, Malaysia, intending to reach Puerto Princesa City. However, their voyage was hindered by inclement weather, leading to a critical situation. The yacht eventually ran out of fuel, leaving the Hofmans adrift and in urgent need of assistance.

The PCG District Palawan swiftly organized a search and rescue team, which included members from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Citinickel, Municipal Agriculture Office, and Barangay Bato Bato officials. This collaborative effort ensured the timely and effective rescue of the stranded couple.

Upon their rescue, the Hofmans were reported to be in stable condition, having received immediate medical attention and support from the authorities involved in the rescue operation.
