OWWA Commits to Complete Construction of Slain Caregiver’s Family Home in Cadiz City
CADIZ CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has pledged to finish the construction of a home for the family of Loreta Alacre, a caregiver who was slain in Israel.
According to a new release by the Philippines News Agency, Mayor Escalante relayed the information on Tuesday following a meeting with OWWA Administrator Arnaldo ‘Arnell’ Ignacio during Alacre’s wake the previous afternoon. In a media interview, Ignacio expressed his observation that the house Alacre was building for her family was left incomplete. He further indicated his commitment to finishing the construction in coordination with the family.
Alacre’s wake took place at her family’s residence in Sitio Camay-an, Barangay Cadiz Viejo, after her body was brought from the city proper in a hero’s caravan. OWWA-Western Visayas (Region 6) OIC Regional Director Rizza Joy Moldes announced that, upon the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., financial assistance would be provided to Alacre’s family. OWWA-6 has been assisting the family since Alacre’s remains arrived at the Bacolod-Silay Airport on Sunday.
Mayor Escalante also stated that the city government would offer additional support, such as employment opportunities for some of Alacre’s immediate family members and educational scholarships for her nephews and nieces.
As a tribute to the late caregiver, the city will name its newly constructed evacuation facility the ‘Loreta V. Alacre Evacuation Center.’ The building is located within the campus of Cadiz Viejo National High School, Alacre’s alma mater. Alacre had been an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) for 19 years, working first in Taiwan and then in Israel.
Alacre, who was based in Tel Aviv, was attending a music festival near the Gaza Strip when she was killed on October 7. In a social media post, her employer, Noam Solomon, described her commitment to caregiving.
