Over PHP706 Million in Aid Distributed to Families Affected by Monsoon and Typhoons in the Philippines
Manila-The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that approximately PHP706.09 million in assistance has been provided to families impacted by recent severe weather events in the Philippines, including the southwest monsoon and Typhoons Butchoy and Carina. These weather disturbances caused significant damage across multiple regions last July, affecting over a million families.
According to Philippines News agency, the aid distributed encompasses food and non-food items intended for approximately 1,020,747 families across 15 regions, including the Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region. While the exact number of families needing further assistance remains unclear, the NDRRMC is continuing to assess the situation. Additionally, the council noted that 48 deaths have been reported, with 14 confirmed so far. The storms also caused considerable damage to infrastructure and agriculture, estimated at over PHP6.46 billion combined.
