Brunei: The Ministry of Health informed on the outbreak of meningococcal disease reported in Kent, United Kingdom. Based on current assessment, the risk to the public in Brunei Darussalam is low, as no cases related to the outbreak have been reported in the country. However, the risk of imported cases from overseas through international travel still exists, especially among individuals who have just returned from Kent, United Kingdom. The Ministry of Health is working closely with the Ministry of Education and the Brunei Student Union in United Kingdom to monitor the health status of Brunei Darussalam students, and provide needed support and guidance. Currently, there are two Brunei students who are studying in Kent, United Kingdom, and both are reported safe and in good health. According to Radio Television Brunei, meningococcal disease is rare but can spread rapidly and can cause serious complications. In this regard, students in United Kingdom are required to follow the health guidance issued by respectiv e university health services and local health authorities; and avoid crowded as well as closed spaces. Students and individuals who have recently returned from Kent are advised to remain vigilant for any symptoms; and seek medical treatment immediately if experiencing any signs of illness, as well as inform the doctor of travel history. The Ministry of Health will continue to closely monitor this situation and will provide updates from time to time.
