OCTA Survey Shows Growing Support for President Marcos Among Filipinos
MANILA — A recent survey by OCTA Research indicates that support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is increasing, with nearly 36% of Filipinos expressing their backing in the second quarter of 2024.
According to Philippines News Agency, which was conducted from June 26 to July 1, the percentage of adult Filipinos identifying as pro-Marcos has risen to 36% from 31% in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, support for the opposition remains low at only 5%. The survey also noted a decrease in support for the Duterte family and their political allies, falling from 20% in March to 16% in June. Additionally, 31% of respondents identify as independents, neither supporting the Marcos administration, the Duterte family, nor the opposition, with another 11% ambivalent about their political preferences.
The highest regional support for Marcos came from Metro Manila at 43%, followed by Balance Luzon at 42%, with lower percentages in the Visayas (32%) and Mindanao (25%). Among socioeconomic classes, support is strongest among Classes ABC and D, with 40% and 37% support respectively, while Class E shows 25% support for Marcos. Notably, Marcos enjoys the most backing from the oldest demographic, those aged 75 and above, at an impressive 69%, and from young adults aged 18-24 at 45%.
Conversely, the Duterte family retains a strong base with 50% of the population still supporting them, though their backing is significantly lower in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon, standing at 7% and 5%, respectively. Among socioeconomic classes, 33% of Class E supports the Dutertes, compared to 16% of Class D and only 4% of Class ABC.
The survey, which involved 1,200 respondents in face-to-face interviews, has a margin of error of ±3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
