Nepal Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 137

KATHMANDU — The number of fatalities from the earthquake that struck western Nepal late Friday has escalated to 137 as of Saturday, according to updates from the authorities.

According to Philippines News Agency, the seismic event not only increased the death toll to 137 but also left 166 individuals injured. The magnitude 6.4 quake has resulted in considerable structural damage and initiated a large-scale rescue operation.

The tremors were felt as far as northern India, prompting reactions and expressions of solidarity from leaders. Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has committed to a swift rescue and aid response, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences and offered support. International organizations like UNICEF are currently assessing the impact on the affected communities, especially children and families.

This natural disaster adds to the historical seismic activity in the region, echoing the memories of the 2015 earthquake that had a severe toll on Nepal.
