Negros Occidental Residents Receive PHP89.28 Million in El Niño Assistance from PAFFF
NEGROS OCCIDENTAL – Over 8,900 residents of Negros Occidental received financial assistance totaling PHP89.28 million as part of the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk, and Families (PAFFF) initiative, aimed at mitigating the effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
According to Philippines news Agency, a total of 8,929 beneficiaries each received PHP10,000 on July 1, with funds first distributed during President Marcos’ visit to the city on June 27. DSWD Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group Irene Dumlao emphasized that the aid is part of a broader effort to support those in the agriculture and fisheries sectors who are adversely affected by climatic challenges such as El Niño.
In Bacolod, a highly urbanized area within the province, 4,000 residents received the specified cash assistance. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez expressed gratitude for the selection of Bacolod as a beneficiary of this substantial support, recognizing its impact on the local community.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson of Negros Occidental remarked on the region’s resilience in the face of climate challenges, noting the significant relief that the national government’s financial aid and additional resources provide to those severely affected by El Niño and drought conditions. He described the support as a source of hope for many throughout the province.
Further bolstering local efforts, Mayor Benitez and Governor Lacson received additional monetary support of PHP10 million and PHP60 million, respectively, from the Office of the President-Socio Civic Project Funds, affirming the national government’s commitment to supporting communities impacted by environmental and economic challenges.
