Post: Negros Occidental LGUs Endorse TESDA’s Community-Based Skills Training Initiative

Talisay City - Local government units in Negros Occidental, coordinated by the Association of Chief Executives (ACE), have pledged support for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority's (TESDA) 'TESDA Sa Barangay' program. This initiative aims to enhance the technical vocational education and training (TVET) ecosystem at the local level.

According to Philippines News Agency, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing with the LGUs is tentatively scheduled for June. The 'TESDA Sa Barangay' program is designed to extend TESDA’s services to the local communities by improving access to quality TVET, involving skills training for barangay workers, and promoting TESDA’s programs. Niña Connie Dodd, the provincial director of TESDA-Negros Occidental, outlined the program’s objectives during a meeting on May 10, hosted by Victorias City Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez at Nature's Village Resort.

Negros ACE, which includes mayors from across the province, aims to facilitate the sharing of technical expertise and support the implementation of projects like 'TESDA Sa Barangay'. The initiative aligns with the broader goals set forth in Republic Act 7796, the TESDA Act of 1994, which emphasizes the development of community-based training opportunities by LGUs.
