Jerudong: The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority, SHENA, in collaboration with the United States Department of Energy, conducted a national Workshop on Nuclear Safeguards. The Opening Ceremony of the Workshop was held at The Empire Brunei, Jerudong, on the afternoon of June 3rd. Over 30 participants from key government agencies attended the workshop.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Dayang Hajah Farida binti Dato Seri Paduka Haji Talib, Permanent Secretary for Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office as Working Committee on Radiation and Nuclear, emphasized in her opening remarks that the workshop provides a valuable opportunity to strengthen the country’s safeguard capacity and reaffirm the country’s commitment to the secure use of nuclear materials.
Earlier, Her Excellency Caryn McClelland, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the country, explained that the U.S. Department of Energy remains committed to ensuring that all nuclear-related activities are effectively regulated to safeguard the well-being of workers, the public, and the environment.
