National Seminar Highlights Challenges and Strategies in Special Education for Hearing Impairments.


Bandar Seri Begawan: The challenges faced by teachers in educating students with sensory disabilities include a lack of knowledge on hearing problems, effective teaching approaches, and the ability to communicate, especially in sign language, to help students understand the lesson well. The National Seminar on Special Education for Hearing and Sign Language Workshop was held on 11 November morning, at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The 3-day seminar, organised by the Department of Special Education, Ministry of Education, aims to build and improve the competence of special education teachers in hearing and sign language, in line with the goal of achieving inclusive education for all students, especially those who experience learning difficulties due to hearing problems.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the seminar was officiated by Doctor Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education. Throughout the seminars and
workshops, participants have the opportunity to explore effective teaching strategies, participate in activities, and learn sign language as an important communication method in creating a conducive and inclusive classroom environment, especially for students with special hearing needs.
