Naga City Receives PHP1 Billion National Funding for 2024 Infrastructure Projects

LEGAZPI CITY: Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion announced on Wednesday a significant financial boost for the city, with a PHP1-billion fund secured for the construction of various infrastructure projects in 2024. This funding marks a major milestone in the city’s development efforts.

According to Philippines News Agency, the funds, obtained from different offices and agencies of the national government, will enable the construction of several key facilities in the city. This strategy allows Naga City to undertake these projects without allocating its local funds, ensuring a more efficient utilization of resources.

The funding assistance breakdown includes PHP190 million from the office of Senator Ronald dela Rosa for Plaza Quezon’s construction, and PHP30 million from Senator Sherwin Gatchalian for developing structures at Paseo de San Francisco. In addition, the city has acquired PHP39 million for a farm-to-market road in Barangay Cararayan, PHP13 million for a similar project in Barangay Panicuason, and PHP700 million for various infrastructure undertakings from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Other allocations include PHP15 million from Senator Juan Edgardo Angara for the Bagumbayan Sur-Queborac Road, PHP100 million from Senator Joel Villanueva for the proposed Naga City Convention Center, and PHP10 million from Senator Lito Lapid for a farm-to-market road in Barangay Carolina.

Recently, the city government received a PHP110-million check from the Department of Health (DOH) through the Ako Bicol (AKB) party list, earmarked for the Medical Assistance for Indigent Patients (MAIP) program. Additionally, another PHP100 million is expected from the national government through AKB for rehabilitating the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum.

Senator Christopher Lawrence Go has committed PHP20 million to complete the necessary equipment for the city’s Dialysis Center. Furthermore, the city government plans to increase the salaries of job orders and contractual personnel this year, reflecting a commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce.
