Drugs Seized for 2022 and 2021

2,536.07 grams of drugs were seized by the Narcotics Control Bureau, NCB in 2022 compared to 3,480.07 grams in 2021. From 613 arrest made last year, 213 individuals have been sentenced by the court for offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27.

Based on the NCB’s statistics, the most seized drug last year was ‘syabu’ at over 1,280 grams, followed by cannabis at over 1,190 grams, and ketamine at over 48 grams.

Also seized were 4 cannabis plants and over 7 thousand millilitres of ‘Ketum’ water.

215 operations were conducted by NCB throughout last year. This includes operation conducted on land and water, as well as joint operations with other enforcement agencies.

Out of 613 total arrests, 902 offences were committed under the Misuse of Drugs Act, Chapter 27. 67 individuals were arrested for possession of controlled drugs for the purpose of trafficking, 11 were apprehended for importing controlled drugs. 113 were detained for the possession of controlled drugs, while 518 arrested for the consumption of controlled drugs, and 193 were apprehended for the possession of items believed to be drug paraphernalia.

The estimated total value of the seizure investigated under the Criminal Asset Recovery Order, 2012 was at $642,086.18.
