PHLPost Chairperson Mike Planas Commits to Revitalizing Philippine Postal Services

MANILA — Mike Planas, the newly appointed Chairperson and Postmaster General/CEO of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost), has pledged significant upgrades and innovations for the national postal service. His commitment includes creating new product lines and building alliances across the logistics value chain to enhance PHLPost’s performance and revenue.

According to Philippines News Agency, Planas took his oath of office on June 18 and immediately outlined his vision to rejuvenate PHLPost. He emphasized the importance of logistics as the backbone of modernization and expressed his intent to revitalize the postal service to better serve the daily needs of Filipinos and to position it as a top-performing Government-Owned and Controlled Corporation (GOCC).

Planas highlighted the untapped potential within PHLPost’s extensive network, which includes over 1,200 post offices nationwide. He noted the unique role of the postal service in reaching remote areas where commercial couriers are less likely to operate, affirming that PHLPost will continue to serve these communities diligently.

With a distinguished academic background from the University of the Philippines, American University, and the Asian Institute of Management (AIM), and previous roles as a councilor in Quezon City and a consultant to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, Planas brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Since his appointment by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in May 2024, he has actively visited various post offices, including those in Davao City Central and Tagum.

Further, Planas has vowed to lead by example, promoting the value of ‘malasakit’ (compassion) among employees, and has committed to the rehabilitation of the historic main post office in Manila, which was damaged by fire last year. His plans also include upgrading the skills of the PHLPost workforce to enhance service efficiency and effectiveness.
