Marinduque Town Provides Aid Packages to Bedridden Seniors and PWDs

Gasan, Marinduque – The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) in Gasan continues its distribution of grocery items to the elderly and disabled within the community, focusing on those most in need due to physical frailty or illness.

According to Philippines News Agency, the outreach program’s focal person, in an interview on Monday, the initiative prioritizes bedridden senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), some of whom are terminally ill. Navarro indicated that while the municipal government has been extending aid to seniors for over five years, the current effort is concentrated on individuals who are very physically frail.

The distribution campaign began on October 16, corresponding with the belated celebration of Elderly Filipino Week. Navarro noted that the initial plan to distribute goods at the municipal hall was changed when it was discovered many beneficiaries were too weak to collect their aid, or had passed away. This led to municipal employees personally delivering the goods to the homes of the recipients.

The provided grocery packages include essentials such as rice, powdered milk, oatmeal, and adult diapers. To date, approximately 100 senior citizens and 26 PWDs across the 25 barangays of Gasan have received these packages through the ‘Assistance to Bedridden Senior Citizens and PWDs’ program.

Mayor Rolando Tolentino, in a social media post, commented on the distribution, highlighting that this support is part of the municipal government’s ongoing commitment to serve every community sector with compassion, particularly the bedridden PWDs and senior citizens.
