Manila to Distribute Financial Aid to Solo Parents and PWDs in December
Manila, Philippines – The city government of Manila has announced the distribution of financial assistance for solo parents and persons with disabilities (PWDs) scheduled to begin in early December.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Honey Lacuna, citing a report from the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), stated that each beneficiary would receive PHP3,000, representing the PHP500 monthly cash aid from July to December this year. This initiative will benefit approximately 17,000 solo parents and 33,000 PWDs in the city. Lacuna also urged beneficiaries to ensure their identification cards are current and not expired, with solo parent IDs requiring annual renewal and PWD IDs every three years. The purpose of the renewal, according to MDSW chief Ma. Asuncion Fugoso, is to verify the continued eligibility of the beneficiaries as residents of Manila. In addition, the city’s senior citizens are also set to receive their cash allowance, which has already been processed, and are expected to receive PHP2,000 each, covering the allowance from September to December. The report from the City’s Office of Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA) indicates that around PHP180,000 elderly residents will benefit from this. They will also receive traditional Christmas gifts provided by the city government. The distribution of monthly cash assistance to senior citizens, solo parents, and PWDs is a part of Manila’s social amelioration program, which also extends to Grade 12 learners and students of the city-run universities, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and Universidad de Manila.
