Magnolia Secures Victory Over TNT in PBA Season Opener
QUEZON CITY – Magnolia Hotshots claimed a triumphant start to the new Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) season, defeating TNT Tropang Giga with a score of 110-102 on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
According to Philippines News Agency, Tyler Bey spearheaded Magnolia’s efforts, particularly in the final minutes, to thwart TNT’s comeback attempts. Bey’s late-game heroics included a layup and two dunks, one being a putback jam with just 24.2 seconds remaining, effectively sealing the victory for the Hotshots. Bey concluded the game with an impressive stat line of 31 points, 20 rebounds, one assist, and three steals. Teammate Mark Barroca contributed 19 points, three rebounds, and three assists to the win, which extended Magnolia’s victory streak to 12 consecutive games, a run that began during the pre-season PBA on Tour event.
Ian Sangalang, returning after an illness, also made a notable contribution to the team’s performance with nine points, eight rebounds, and two assists. On the opposing side, Quincy Miller stood out for TNT with 37 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, and four steals, while Calvin Oftana’s 28 points, five assists, and three steals showcased a strong individual effort despite the team’s loss. The defeat marks TNT’s third consecutive loss in regular season play, including two prior defeats to Chiba in the East Asia Super League.
