CEBU – The Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) introduced a new service called ‘Cebu Connect’ on Wednesday, aimed at reducing layover times for passengers.
According to Philippines News Agency, CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (AGMCAC), the new transfer system is designed to cut layover times from an hour to 30 minutes or less. ‘Cebu Connect’ aims to streamline the transfer process within MCIA, enhancing the travel experience for both domestic and international visitors and positioning Cebu as a prime gateway to the Philippines. “This is part of MCIA’s commitment to meeting global standards in airport operations,” Titonis stated.
Cosette Canilao, President and CEO of Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc., emphasized that the service will bolster tourism by making travel through Cebu more efficient. The system includes updated X-ray scanners, additional counters, and a team of trained security and airport staff, ensuring safe and quick transitions between terminals. The collaboration with government agencies like the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority, Bureau of Customs, and Bureau of Immigration was key in gathering the resources needed for this initiative.
Cebu’s strategic location in the heart of the Philippines provides easy access to popular destinations such as Siargao, Camiguin, Bohol, Boracay, and Palawan, all of which are just a short flight away from MCIA.
