Lyceum Secures Semifinals Spot in NCAA Season 99 Men’s Basketball Tournament

SAN JUAN CITY – Lyceum of the Philippines University achieved a critical 83-80 victory over San Sebastian College on Friday, securing a semifinal berth in the NCAA Season 99 men’s basketball tournament. The closely contested match took place at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan City.

According to Philippines News Agency, Enoch Valdez played a pivotal role for Lyceum, scoring 18 points, with 14 coming in the second half. Mclaude Guadama contributed 10 points, helping the Pirates improve their record to 12-4. This victory also enhances Lyceum’s chances of earning a twice-to-beat advantage in the Final Four. Other key players included Patrick Montano with 22 points and Shawn Umali contributing 13 points, while John Barba added 10 points. Lyceum overcame a halftime deficit to lead 64-63 at the end of the third quarter. Despite a late-game attempt by San Sebastian to force overtime, Romel Calahat’s three-point attempt failed as the final buzzer sounded. The loss marked San Sebastian’s 11th defeat against five wins this season. In another match, Mapua, led by Marc Cuenco’s standout performance, defeated Arellano University to maintain their top position. Cuenco’s 17 points, combined with solid performances from teammates Clint Escamis and Paolo Hernandez, were instrumental in Mapua’s success, which sits at a 14-4 mark and has already secured a Final Four spot.
