MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued another warning to the public about scam messages related to traffic violations, advising everyone to disregard any such SMS or messages received through other platforms.
According to Philippines News Agency, these fraudulent messages are part of an online scam designed to pilfer personal information, including sensitive banking and e-wallet details. "We would like to remind the public that the LTO does not send any traffic violations through text messages or any messaging app. If you receive one, that means it came from scammers," Mendoza stated. The scam messages often include a link that, when clicked, directs the recipient to a counterfeit LTO website where they are asked to enter their vehicle's license plate and other personal data. Mendoza emphasized the importance of not sharing any personal information through these links and advised the public to completely ignore these messages.
The LTO is actively working with the Philippine National Police and the Department of Information and Communications Technology to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for these scams. Additionally, Mendoza has directed all regional directors and heads of district offices to ramp up their public awareness campaigns about these fraudulent activities through social media and the LTO’s free theoretical driving courses.
