Post: Language Month Celebration Focuses on Elevating Malay Language Status

Berakas: Today, the role of the Malay language is increasingly challenging. However, the challenge also opens up opportunities to elevate its status to a higher level. This was outlined by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports during the Launching Ceremony of the Language Month Celebration 2025. In this regard, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad explained that the responsibility does not only lie on the shoulders of language institutions, but also requires the support of the entire community. Yang Berhormat also hopes that every ministry and government agency will play an active role in prioritizing the use of the Malay language in official affairs, documentation, reporting, digital communication, and interaction with the citizens. Held at the Language and Literature Bureau, DBP, Berakas, the ceremony ran concurrently with the launch of eight new books published by DBP.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the event included a discussion on “Bahasa Jiwa Bangsa” and the presentation of certificates, prizes and souvenirs to the Discussion Panellists, Outstanding Students in the Malay Language and Malay Literature Subjects for the Brunei Cambridge GCE ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level Examinations 2024. Also present was a Member of the Legislative Council.
