Post: La Union Focuses on Youth as Key Players in Responsible Communication

La Union – Governor Raphaella Veronica Ortega-David of La Union emphasized the crucial role of youth in combating disinformation and fake news during a recent talk with high school students. Addressing around 400 students at the provincial convention center on Monday, David highlighted the importance of sharing verified information online and being responsible communicators. The talk was part of 'COMMunity,' a content creation education seminar aimed at empowering young individuals in the province.

According to Philippines News Agency, David, the youth play a significant role in aiding the decision-making process of their province mates through responsible use of social media. She encouraged the students to be meticulous in data-gathering and always verify information before sharing it online. The governor's message underscored the need for relevance, vibrancy, outstanding contribution, and developmental approach in their online activities. She stressed that every individual serves as a medium for disseminating necessary information, which is a part of nation-building.

Rowan Joshua Dimaculangan, La Union's information officer, in a phone interview, stated the province's commitment to critical information dissemination, particularly among the youth, who are avid users of modern media. The 'COMMunity' event, the first of its kind in the province, is part of a broader initiative to educate and involve more young people in responsible communication. Participant Irish Dacusan Esguerra from Bacnotan National High School expressed gratitude for the learning opportunity provided by the caravan, which included insights on content creation and social media management.
