MANILA — Justice Secretary Jesus Remulla has issued a directive to the new National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Jaime Santiago to intensify efforts against cybercrime and root out corruption within the agency. This move is part of a broader initiative to enhance the integrity and effectiveness of the country’s primary investigative body.
According to Philippines News Agency, Secretary Remulla's instructions were straightforward: ensure that only the most competent individuals occupy critical positions, expose and discipline errant agents, combat cybercrime, and adhere strictly to ethical standards. These directives were given as part of the new leadership's mission to reform the NBI from within.
The DOJ revealed that in their recent discussions, Remulla and Santiago focused on strategies to streamline investigative processes at the NBI. This includes leveraging advanced technologies, enhancing inter-agency cooperation, and effectively implementing new policies to tackle emerging threats. The leadership duo emphasized the importance of transparency, efficiency, and accountability in their operations to better serve and protect the public.
In addition to departmental updates, Clavano provided an update on Secretary Remulla’s health, noting his recovery from heart surgery last year. He mentioned that Remulla’s condition is improving, thanks in part to a strict diet prescribed by his doctors to facilitate weight loss and promote overall health.
