John Rey Oro and Rhiena Sinfuego Aim for Consecutive Titles at Junior Philippine Golf Tour in Bacolod


BACOLOD – The Junior Philippine Golf Tour (JPGT) Visayas Series, starting Monday at the Bacolod Golf and Country Club, features local talents John Rey Oro and Rhiena Sinfuego both vying for back-to-back championship titles in their respective categories.



According to Philippines News Agency, the ICTSI-JPGT Visayas Series in Bacolod will see 17-year-old John Rey Oro, the recent Iloilo kickoff winner by a margin of six strokes over his twin brother, John Paul, compete in the premier boys’ 16-18 category. The 72-hole competition will also feature strong contenders like Keith Pagalan, Simon Wahing, and Coby Langamin from Manolo Fortich High School in Bukidnon, who are gearing up for the JPGT Mindanao Series next month. Patrick Tambalque from Cavite, last year’s category winner at the JPGT national finals, is another notable competitor in this tournament.



In the girls’ division, Rhiena Sinfuego of Iloilo, who also secured a win in the opening leg, is set to face tough competition from Evonne Gotiong, Mikaela Ledesma, Jamela Robles, Breanna Rojas, and Necky Tortosa. Additionally, the tournament will include younger players such as Inno Flores and Alexie Gabi in the boys’ and girls’ 13-15 division, which covers 54 holes, and Kurt Flores and Cailey Gonzales in the 10-12 division, with Kvan Alburo and Eliana Mendoza competing in the 8-9 division over 36 holes.



This event is the first of two in Bacolod as part of the three-leg JPGT Visayas Series. Participants are not only battling for titles but also aiming to secure spots in the national match play finals scheduled for October, as part of the 14-leg nationwide circuit organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. The next event in Bacolod is slated for July 1 to 4 at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club course, previously known as the Marapara layout, in Bata Subdivision.
