MALATE, MANILA — Jamesray Mishael Ajido continued his impressive performance at the Philippine Aquatics, Inc. National Age Group Championships, securing two additional gold medals on Sunday at the Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Pool, Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, bringing his total to eight.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ajido, representing FTW Royals Swim Club, excelled in the boys’ 15 Class A 100-meter backstroke, recording a time of 1 minute and 2.44 seconds, besting John Jeremy Villanueva of Pasig City and Vince Santiago De Leon of Ilustre East Aquatics. He also dominated the 50-meter freestyle, clocking in at 24.87 seconds, with Matt Aaron Nerison and Elijah Ebayan trailing behind.
Previously, Ajido had clinched gold in both the 50m and 100m butterfly, 100m and 200m freestyle, and 50m and 200m backstroke events, demonstrating his versatility and stamina in the pool. His achievements have also earned him the Most Outstanding Swimmer award, further solidifying his status in the championships.
Despite recovering from a right shoulder injury sustained during last month’s ASEAN School Games tryouts, Ajido’s performance remained unaffected. He is scheduled to compete in three more events: the 200m butterfly, 200m Individual Medley, and 400m freestyle, later in the day.
Additionally, his teammates from FTW Royals Swim Club swept the boys’ 17 and over Class A 50m freestyle event, with top finishes from Jerard Dominic Jacinto, Seb Wong, and Johan Carlos Aguilen. The championships also saw strong performances in various age and class categories from swimmers across different clubs.
