Post: Ilocos Police Seize PHP10.8 Million in Illegal Drugs Over 10-Month Span

Ilocos: The Ilocos Police announced the confiscation of PHP10.8 million worth of illegal drugs, primarily 1.56425 kilos of shabu, from October 24, 2022, until August 15 of this year. The information was disclosed by Police Regional Office - Ilocos (PRO-1) Director Brig. Gen. John Chua during the 122nd Police Service Anniversary Celebration held on Friday.

According to a news release by Philippine News Agency,Chua reported that during this period, 838 drug suspects and 80 high-value targets were arrested, while 61 drug personalities surrendered. Additionally, PRO-1 had a 95.38 percent conviction rate in drug-related cases. The police force also eradicated 13 marijuana plantations, resulting in the destruction of PHP44.2 million worth of marijuana plants and the confiscation of 1,722.95 grams of the drug.

A total of 46,692 medals and commendations were awarded to police personnel for their service. Chua highlighted the construction of 17 new buildings and facilities aimed at improving frontline police services, including police stations and provincial offices.

Investments have also been made in Information and Communications Technology infrastructure. Chua pointed to the Secured, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence-driven, Real-time Technology Policing program as a key initiative in line with the Philippine National Police's Five-Focused Agenda and the government's goals for digitalization. The improvements include 100 percent compliance with CCTV systems and a 98.51 percent rating for Communication Technology Utilization.

"In addition, we've launched a Systematic Messaging and Communication Tracker System to monitor and manage communication effectively," Chua said. He emphasized that the challenges of a changing crime and security landscape require continual skill enhancement, technological adaptation, and the upholding of high professional standards.
