Post: Holiday Season Expected to See Modest Rise in Agri-Commodity Prices in Davao Region

Davao City, Philippines - The Department of Agriculture in the Davao Region (DA-11) has indicated a slight increase in the prices of agri-commodities, meat, and poultry during the upcoming holiday season. This projection was shared in a press briefing held on Tuesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DA-11 price monitoring lead, the expected increase in farm commodities' prices may range from PHP5 to PHP10. Roble specifically mentioned that spices, particularly onions, which are in high demand during the holiday season, will also likely see a slight increase in price. However, she clarified that this projected rise in agricultural commodity prices does not necessarily imply a significant surge in all basic commodity prices during the Christmas season.

Roble identified several factors contributing to the price increase, including high fuel costs and the impact of African swine fever and avian influenza, even if these outbreaks occur in other regions. She noted that the anticipated price increase this year is not as severe as what was experienced last year. Additionally, a price rise is also expected in the fruit sector.

Despite these projections, Roble assured that there would be a sufficient food supply available during the holiday season. This assurance is critical for consumers who often face price fluctuations in essential commodities during peak festive periods.
