Holding Charge of Murder Against Captain Muhammad Hanis

Bandar seri begawan: On the 30th of September 2025, Captain Muhammad Hanis bin Awang Masri was charged with murder under section 302 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, in court before Honourable Magistrate Abdul ‘Azim bin Othman. The defendant faced allegations of causing the death of his wife by strangulation.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the incident came to light on 28th September 2025, when an emergency call was made to the Police Emergency line, 993. The call reported the discovery of a 23-year-old female’s dead body at the defendant’s residence in Berakas. The deceased, identified as the defendant’s wife and a Filipino national, prompted police investigations. Following the prosecution’s request, the court ordered the defendant’s remand for two weeks to facilitate further investigations by the Royal Brunei Police Force. The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Khalillah binti Haji Hussin. The case is scheduled for further mention on 14th October 2025.
