German-Philippine Firms Anticipate Increased Employment in the Philippines
Manila, German-Philippine companies are showing optimism about their business prospects in the Philippines, with an expectation of increased local employment. This outlook comes from the results of a survey conducted by the German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI – AHK Philippinen).
According to Philippines News Agency, 50 percent of German-Philippine businesses remain optimistic about their business situation. GPCCI President Stefan Schmitz expressed satisfaction with the results, acknowledging the challenges and opportunities faced by German businesses in the country. The survey revealed that 68 percent of firms are confident about business development over the next 12 months, with more than half planning to hire additional Filipino workers.
Despite the positive outlook, companies identified several challenges impacting their economic development, including energy prices, skilled worker shortages, demand fluctuations, policy conditions, and exchange rates. Energy costs remain a primary concern for these businesses. The lack of skilled workers, as mentioned by 37 percent of respondents, is seen as a significant risk to their operations.
GPCCI Director and Policy and Advocacy Chairperson Marian Norbert Majer emphasized the need for government strategies and policies to promote skills development in the Philippines. This approach is expected to benefit both local and foreign employment opportunities for Filipinos.
