Israel Vows Prolonged Campaign in Gaza
TEL AVIV – In a significant statement on Saturday, Israel’s defense minister declared that the nation’s military operations in Gaza will persist until they achieve victory, signaling a potentially extended campaign.
According to Philippines News Agency, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, in a public address, stated Israel’s determination to continue its military action in Gaza for as long as necessary, even if it spans a full year. The defense minister emphasized the goal of ensuring no threat remains in Gaza capable of terrorizing Israel’s southern border and claimed full operational freedom will be secured within the strip post-conflict.
Galant also mentioned the siege of Gaza City by Israeli forces and expressed intentions to dismantle Hamas’s capabilities in the region, asserting that 12 Hamas military commanders have been targeted successfully. He further declared the intent to eliminate Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza. On the subject of the northern front, Galant warned Hezbollah against aggression, noting that while Israel has no desire for conflict with Lebanese Hezbollah, any action akin to Hamas’s could lead to severe consequences for Lebanon. This message was reinforced by Galant’s comments on a recent trip to the northern border, where he reiterated Israel’s preparedness for any scenario.
The current expansion of Israeli military actions comes after the latest offensive by Hamas on October 7. The ongoing conflict has resulted in nearly 11,000 fatalities, including 9,488 Palestinians and over 1,538 Israelis.
