MAKATI CITY — An inmate who had escaped from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) stockade in Baguio City was rearrested in Makati City, following a coordinated effort by military and police forces, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced on Saturday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Federico Abamonga was apprehended by personnel from the National Capital Region Police Office and the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines on Dela Rosa Street, corner Pasong Tamo, Barangay Pio Del Pilar, Makati City. The arrest occurred at 7 p.m. on Friday, and Abamonga was subsequently turned over to BuCor authorities. Abamonga, a 30-year-old resident of Barangay Tumana in Marikina City, was previously convicted by the Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 273 of homicide and sentenced to 8 to 14 years in prison.
He had escaped from the PMA stockade in Fort del Pilar, Baguio City on July 22. Under an agreement between BuCor and the PMA, the military academy is tasked with monitoring the security and activities of inmates under its custody, including reporting any escapes immediately to facilitate their swift recovery and ensure the effective and humane management of persons deprived of liberty.
