KATHMANDU — A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck western Nepal just before midnight on Friday, resulting in significant fatalities and injuries.
According to Philippines News Agency, the tremor hit the Jajarkot district at approximately 11:47 p.m. local time and was relatively shallow, with a depth of 18 kilometers. The aftermath saw at least 69 individuals confirmed dead with dozens more reported injured. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal addressed the disaster on social media, mourning the loss of life and property, and has directed the commencement of immediate rescue and relief efforts in response to the crisis.
