CEBU CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-Central Visayas) has formalized partnerships with several local retailers to kickstart the 'Walang Gutom 2027: Food Stamp Program (FSP)', aimed at addressing hunger in the region.
According to Philippines News Agency, the memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed on Monday with entities including the Cordova Multi-Purpose Cooperative, RC Family Grocery Store, Honey's Agrivet and General Merchandize, and several others across Cordova, Cebu, and Mabinay, Negros Oriental. Lucero highlighted the significance of these collaborations, noting they utilize the existing networks and resources of retail partners to effectively distribute food packages to program beneficiaries.
The initiative will see its first redemption period from July 18 to 20, with food packages being distributed to registered recipients—159 in Cordova and 773 in Mabinay. DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao praised the effort, emphasizing the program's dual benefit of supporting local retailers while providing essential food assistance to the community.
The Food Stamp Program is a cornerstone of the Marcos administration's strategy to combat hunger, offering monetary assistance and nutrition education to teach families the preparation of healthy meals. Additionally, the FSP encourages beneficiary engagement in skills training and participation in job fairs, fostering a path towards productive citizenship.
