Post: DOTr Enhances Cycling Infrastructure in Quezon City and UP Diliman

QUEZON CITY - In a significant boost to local cyclists, the Quezon City government and the University of the Philippines-Diliman campus received new cycling facilities from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Monday, marking a step forward in promoting sustainable transportation.

According to Philippines News Agency, the provision of twenty-one sets of short-term end-of-trip cycling facilities at UP Diliman and fifteen at Quezon City Hall represents the beginning of an ongoing effort to make Quezon City more cyclist-friendly. During the turnover ceremonies, Melad highlighted the vision for safer streets and cleaner air, underscoring the city's commitment to sustainability.

Quezon City, named the most bike-friendly city in the Philippines by the 2023 Mobility Awards, has been proactive in establishing bike lanes along major thoroughfares such as Elliptical Avenue and is actively working to expand these facilities. The newly installed sets at both locations include bicycle racks, sheds, and repair stations, enhancing the cycling infrastructure significantly.

In remarks at the event, Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto emphasized the transformative potential of cycling for urban mobility. He stated that the new facilities would bolster the city’s sustainable transportation initiatives and encourage more residents to consider cycling as a practical daily commuting option.
