DOT Praises Private Sector’s Role in Enhancing Cordillera Tourism

Baguio City, Philippines – The Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has commended the private sector, particularly the Baguio Arts and Crafts Collectives Inc. (BACCI), for their efforts in promoting tourism and supporting local artisans. The initiative includes the annual Mandeko Kito arts and crafts fair, a platform for selling various items crafted by local artisans.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Mandeko Kito, which translates to “let’s sell” in the local dialect, is an important event that draws tourists and helps promote shopping for local products. Ganongan emphasized the fair’s role in enhancing the region’s tourism appeal. Rommel Marcelo, executive director of the 2023 Mandeko Kito and a member of the BACCI board of directors, revealed that the artisanal fair commenced on November 17 at the University of the Philippines-Baguio Museo Kordilyera Museum. The fair, showcasing products from over 30 crafters from the Cordillera, La Union, and Tarlac, will continue over three more weekends. Products on display include a wide range of handicrafts, fashion accessories, and traditional arts. Marcelo noted that while the fair initially featured only Baguio and Cordillera-based crafters, it has since expanded to include artisans from other regions, ensuring a variety of high-quality items for buyers.
